Paint Party Friday: One Painting, Endless Possibilities...

It's time for another Paint Party Friday and I'm excited!  We're having a beautiful week, so I grabbed my easel and headed outside...

This painting was inspired by Connie Hozvicka's "Abstract Adventures" workshop (part of 21 Secrets).  The process is similar to the one I use when making my collage papers, but with greater attention to the heart and body connection to art making.  It is refreshing (and challenging!) to quiet my mind and let loose.  I have a tendency to over think things, so I really appreciate Connie's intuitive approach.

After I stopped painting, I felt the restlessness of not being finished, but it didn't need more paint... It needed something radical...

So I cut it up!
(Sorry, Connie!)

After I cut it up, I couldn't resist playing with the pieces...
("before" on the left, "after" on the right)

If you remember this post, then it should be no surprise that I "found" an elephant among the pieces!

I guess I could have stopped there... But I didn't!

I mounted all of the pieces on an 18 x 24 canvas.  I loved the way it looked like a patchwork quilt, which made me think...

It would be a great background for a mixed media painting...

Or would be the perfect start to one of my "reverse" paintings!

One painting, endless possibilities!

I'd like to finish today's post by thanking Dawn for reminding me of the following quote (and providing me with some daisy inspiration)!

"I love daisies...  They're so friendly.  Don't you think that daisies are the friendliest flowers?"
-Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan's character in "You've Got Mail")

Daisies are my favorite flowers too.

Wishing you a weekend filled with all of your favorite things!

  10. wow. just wow. you are one of the most creative people i think i've ever met (virtually met anyway!) this is ingenious-how you saw different little scenes in each abstract square-i love it. your daisy pictures are beautiful- i think i particularly love the reverse one. but please tell me (am going to show my ignorance here!) how did you manage to do so many things with the same original artwork- are the scenes done by graphic design and how have you used the same background for 2.different backgrounds or did you have enough to make two canvases?

  14. Faberoonie!!! Just love this. I cut stuff up too and it does make for the most interesting prompts to start something fresh. Sometimes I even cut up the result of that too!

  15. I was loving this post so much, love the patchwork effect and felt like a kid again when you made picture out of the images (like making pictures out of clouds) and then I got to the end and wow thank you I am so happy that I inspired some of your amazing work.

On an after thought; I may have to watch this film again, this is my fave part of the film when he (Joe fox)knows who she is and she has no clue ;0) that they have been talking for ages via e-mail. I have the original film this was based on 'the little shop around the corner' also wonderful. And I have daisies in my garden
I do love them. Sorry for going on ;0)

    Love Dawn xx

  20. Kristin, this was absolutly the best post for inspiration. To see all that you were able to come up with here in this one post is amazing. I love your work and the way you use color feels so uplifting and happy. Does that make any sense? The daisy didn't hurt either. Great post!

  27. My daisies are in bloom and beautiful!!

Wow Kristin!! What an incredible journey this piece has gone on! It and its children are fabulous!

But I am a little confused about a few things - the little before and afters - do you scan the befores and then do the afters? Since they are back on the canvas now without alteration, that's my guess...
and the same for the daisies? Scanned and printed background? then painted on? You are so creative!!!

  31. We all agree - you're brilliant. I found myself flipping back and forth absorbing the progression of creativity. And since I didn't see any of the small altered pieces in your quilt, I'm assuming they were scanned and became your play pieces.
My goodness, I have enough inspiration here to get me through the next month!! Beautiful, creative, inspiring work.

  35. OMG! I am in awe! When you cut up that painting into little squares and then started "playing"... that was brilliant! Gah! I was in love. LOVE! Then, glued onto a canvas! Wow! BEAUTIFUL! Then a new painting! Kristin, I'm still processing all of this. YOU are an inspiration. LOVE it all. Gorgeous work. Loved the original, Love the ending piece! I'm in 21 Secrets and would never have thought to do that to one of the pieces from Connie's class. :)

By the way, thank you for your kind comments on my Warhol CitraSolv piece!
